Sally Experience was the primary American lady in house and the youngest American astronaut to have travelled to house, having joined NASA in 1978.
On the 1983 STS-7 house shuttle mission, Experience was answerable for controlling a robotic arm, and assisted in launching satellites into house. She visited house once more in 1984.
As soon as she left NASA in 1987, Experience went on to be an advocate for getting ladies into science, expertise, engineering and maths (STEM), writing books for each college students and academics.
She was behind NASA’s EarthKAM mission which permits 11-year-old college students to make use of cameras on the Worldwide House Station to take photos of Earth from house, which they will then research extra intently.
Later in life she had a relationship with Girls’s Tennis Affiliation participant Tam O’Shaughnessy. Experience died of most cancers in 2012 on the age of 61.
